Broccoli with Spicy Sesame Oil

A couple weeks back, someone requested a recipe for Chinese restaurant-style broccoli with garlic sauce. I clipped this recipe from my local paper; it was reported to be right out of a local restaurant's recipe files. Hope that it's what you're looking for. I've tried it, and it comes very close to the Chinese take-out version. (As a bonus, it's very simple to make!)

Kristin

  • 1 bunch broccoli
  • 1.5 tbsp sesame oil
  • 1 small (I prefer several large!) garlic clove, minced
  • 1/8 tsp crushed red pepper
  • 2 tsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
    1. Bring large pan of salted water to a boil. Cut broccoli into florets. Peel tough outer layer from stalks; trim off woody ends. Cut stalks diagonally into 1/4" slices. Add broccoli to water and blanch for 1 minute. Drain.
    2. In a large skillet, warm sesame oil, garlic and red pepper over low heat for three minutes. Stir in soy and lemon juice. Add broccoli, toss and coat.
